This is the ultimate adventure for the brave and even the not so brave. Shark Diving or Cage Diving has become a popular activity along the South African Coast Line, allowing divers and spectators to view this magnificent predator up close and personal in comfort and safety.
You have a very early start , as you are collected from our hotel at around 5:00 am( depending on where you are staying) for your complementary transfer through to Kleinbaai which is about a 2.5 hour drive from Cape Town. Once at Kleinbaai , which is near Dyer's Island better known as SHARK ALLEY, you are welcomed with tea, coffee , fruit juice and breakfast , which consists of pastries, cold meats, fruit, cereals and toast.
After eating you are given information about the dive and the great white , safety while on board, as well as the conservation of this wonderful predator. After which you walk through to the launch site and wait for the boat to be bought to the jetty.
Board the boat and get launched in to the water, where your experience begins. Once a spot has been found , the boat is anchored.
Once anchored the cage is positioned on the side of the boat and chum is thrown in to the water and tuna baited on to a rope. The cage is rectangular and up to four people can go in at a time. Wetsuits and goggles are provided. Underwater cameras can be purchased(advisable). You are shown how to sit on the bars of the cage and as soon as a shark is spotted one of the crew members shouts ' Shark' and then everyone goes underwater. There is no time limit in the cage and you can go in the cage as many times as you like. There is also no age restriction for the dive or for spectating on the boat.Time on the boat can vary and is dependent on the quality of the sightings.
For the not so brave , you are still able to spot the Great White from the boat not compromising your over all experience.
Visibility is best during the winter months (May to August) and can be anything up to 12 meters.
While on board you are offered a selection of soft drinks and sandwiches which are included in the dive price.
You can also experience sightings of dolphins , whales , penguins and a variety of fish including jelly fish.
Once the anchor is raised the boat docks back at the jetty and tea and scones are offered to everyone. You are handed a certificate for Shark Diving ( even those who did not dive received one) and then you have the option of purchasing a DVD of the days events. Transfer back to Cape Town in the late afternoon.
White Shark Projects are a world-leading organisation focusing on the conservation of the Great White Shark. They offer filming, Conservation & Education, Diving and Viewing.
Come and view this amazing predator in a safe and professional environment.
