The magical, mysterious Spice Island of Zanzibar has lured sailors and travellers to its exotic shores since Biblical times. Sumerians. With a variety of cultures having all had an influence in the melting pot that is Zanzibar today.
Stone Town is fascinating labyrinth of narrow, winding streets, richly carved doorways and overhanging balconies; stay in a beautifully restored palace and explore one of Africa's oldest cities. Along the coast, you'll drive past spice gardens where the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla that give the island its name grow in profusion. Continue to the wonderful white beaches that stretch forever and feel the peace of the non-frenetic lifestyle that envelop you.
Zanzibar is developing fast, but still remains a simplicity that is both charming and comfortable.
Climate
High Season is November to March, when it is very hot and humid, with rainfall in short, sharp bursts. Low season is April to June, and the monsoon rains bucket down. It doesn't rain all day, but you'll spend quite a bit of time indoors. Some resorts are closed during this period. Mid season is July to October, and probably the most pleasant, with little rain and average temperatures of 25° C.
