West IndiesExciting Big-Game FishingAn interesting new destination this year - Grenada is a beautiful, peaceful island - perfect for a family holiday in the Caribbean with all the excitement of big-game fishing on offer too. The FishingFishing centres around the blue marlin, which swim in these waters year round but whose numbers are greatest during the main season from October to March. A new Spice Island Billfish Tournament Grenada record was set in 2006 with a fish of 669 lbs. Tag and release is the norm here and virtually all billfish go back to fight another day. A range of other species keeps the action going including the smaller white marlin, sailfish (a spectacular jumper), wahoo and dorado. Yellowfin tuna grow to over 200 lbs in these rich, blue waters and a big one is a real test of angler and tackle. These tuna appear to be virtually tireless and it has been known to take two hours to bring a big one to the boat. Even then they are still full of fight and can be lost on the leader. Everyone has a chance to fight this true gladiator of the sea!! The Skippers and BoatsWe work with two fully-equipped big-game boats in Grenada each with an experienced skipper and crew who know these waters well. The two boats are berthed at the Grenada Yacht Club in Lagoon Road very near to the capital, St.George’s. Top quality tackle is provided on board along with a large cool-box filled with cold drinks. We can cater for an individual angler or up to a group of 4 on either boat (ie for 1, 2, 3 or 4 anglers). Safety FirstThe safety of passengers and crew is of paramount importance on the boats and both carry lifejackets, flares, first-aid kits and back-up navigational equipment. Both boats are fully insured and are licensed and inspected by the Grenada Ports Authority. Fishing Prices per Boat (subject to change)
Note: Offshore trips for marlin and tuna need a full day. The shorter trips target mainly sailfish, wahoo and dorado. The Caribbean SeaWe are mainly fishing off the sheltered west coast of the island away from the prevailing north-easterly Trade Winds and it is very rare indeed for the weather to prevent a trip from going. In fact, we could almost say we go fishing every day!! For those of you who know about the importance of the drop-off to this type of fishing, you will be happy to know that in most areas it is already 2000 feet deep within one mile of land and we usually start fishing only twenty minutes after leaving the dock. Many of the really big fish are taken around the 6000 feet contour, just an hour at trolling speed from the fishing start point. Skipper's Special NoteThe skippers are happy to look after anglers at all levels -from novices to old hands! Today many anglers who have been big-game fishing before now want to be more involved rather than just being handed a rod with a fish on the end. In Grenada you can - under guidance from the skipper and crew, set out the lures and teasers, check reel drags, sight the fish and set the hooks during a strike. Travel DetailsPassports need to be 10 years and valid for at least 6 months after the return date. Visas are not required for UK passport holders.
