Fancourt • Stellenbosch • Cape Town • HermanusFor those of you who would like to spend Christmas in the sun we have put together a wonderful itinerary to include excellent golf, luxury accommodation and time to relax and enjoy the wonderful South African climate. We start off with the Garden Route then make our way to the wine region of Stellenbosch, continue into Cape Town and round off your holiday on the coast in the quaint little town of Hermanus. As this is a very busy time of year we urge you to express your interest in joining the tour as early as possible to enable us to hold your flight seats at the best possible price. ITINERARY December 2010Day 1: Tuesday 21st December 2009Depart early evening from London Heathrow on South African Airways direct overnight flight to Johannesburg. Day 2: Wednesday 22nd DecemberOn arrival at Johannesburg airport take a connecting flight to George. Transfer to the Fancourt Hotel and Country Estate. Spend five nights at arguably the finest golf estate in Southern Africa and home to the President’s cup in 2003. The hotel and clubhouse are luxurious, with excellent facilities including 3 restaurants, health centre, heated pool, outdoor pool, bowling green, tennis and squash courts. PM. Welcome cocktail party. 5 nights at Fancourt Hotel and Country Club including breakfast. Day 3: Thursday 23rd DecemberGolf on the Outeniqua course; this is a majestic 18-hole Parkland layout designed by legendary Grand Slam golfer Gary Player. It is similar in character The Montagu and its challenging design and fine conditioning will ensure an excellent test for all levels of golfers. Day 4: Friday 24th DecemberWe take a trip to the town of Knysna and spend the day exploring the interesting shops followed by an afternoon trip on the John Ben Ferry to the Knysna Heads. Day 5: Saturday 25th DecemberChristmas will be celebrated with lunch at the hotel. The rest of the day is free to enjoy their facilities and activities available. Day 6: Sunday 26th DecemberGolf on the Montagu course; the Montagu is a much celebrated parkland course and has been ranked as the number-one golf course in South Africa in the past. It has recently undergone major renovations with several holes being redesigned. Day 7: Monday 27th DecemberAfter breakfast, you will be driving from George along the Garden Route to the winelands of Stellenbosch. We will be spending 4 nights at the Lanzerac Hotel. One of the region's most distinguished examples of Cape Dutch architecture, the hotel's rooms, restaurants, bar, lounge and facilities are all located in the estate’s 300 year old Manor House and outbuildings, amidst 10 hectares of award-winning land-scaped gardens featuring numerous ancient oaks, some over 160 years old. 4 nights at The Lanzerac Manor & Winery including breakfast. Day 8: Tuesday 28th DecemberGolf at De Zalze; another Peter Matkovich designed course, set amongst the De Zalze Winelands with the most stunning setting and a course that places a premium on accuracy. De Zalze’s fairways are surrounded by vineyards, olive groves & lavender fields, which will all produce marketable crops for the Kleine Zalze Estate. Day 9: Wednesday 29th DecemberToday we take a tour of the nearby wine growing areas. Visit a few wineries, partake in a spot of wine tasting followed by a lazy afternoon lunch at Le Petite Ferme in Franschhoek. Lunches at La Petite Ferme Restaurant are legendary, a feast of culinary delights, the food reflects the creative energy and raw talent of a dedicated staff combined with an abundance of fresh local ingredients. Day 10: Thursday 30th DecemberGolf at Stellenbosch Golf Club; one of the best golf courses in South Africa and host to the South African Masters and South African Open in the past. This course will test your golfing skills. In the afternoon we take a drive through the oak lined streets of Stellenbosch on a short tour of the town. Day 11: Friday 31st DecemberAfter breakfast we make our way to Cape Town to the Winchester Mansion Hotel for a 7 nights stay. Winchester Mansions with its reputation for outstanding service and elegant Cape Dutch style overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and is situated in Sea Point just a few minutes from the bustling V & A Waterfront. 7 nights at the Winchester mansions Hotel including breakfast. Day 12: Saturday 1st JanuaryFree day to relax around the pool or take a stroll on the promenade. Day 13: Sunday 2nd JanuaryGolf at Millerton Golf Club; the course is surrounded by natural beauty, a pleasure to the senses and a challenge to even the most experienced golfer. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the RietVlei River, this lush links-type course is relatively flat with few trees. Afternoon free to explore the Waterfront. Day 14: Monday 3rd JanuaryFull day tour of Cape Town city, including a trip up Table Mountain by cable car and an optional trip across the bay to Robben Island. Day 15: Tuesday 4th JanuaryGolf at Westlake; this course is nestled in the crescent of the Steenberg/Silvermine mountains and is characterised by the towering trees lining most of the fairways. Day 16: Wednesday 5th JanuaryFree day to relax around the pool or do some shopping at the V&A Waterfront. Day 17: Thursday 6th JanuaryGolf at Royal Cape; the oldest club in South Africa. It was given its Royal title in 1910 after a visit by the Duke of Connaught. The course is essentially a flat parkland course, with lovely views of the surrounding mountains. The narrow fairways demand extreme accuracy off the tee, wayward shots are penalised by trees and the greens are well bunkered. Day 18: Friday 7th JanuaryWe travel into the Overberg region via spectacular Sir Lowry’s Pass which offers stunning views of False Bay, to Hermanus. Check into the Marine Hotel. Afternoon free to take a stroll along the cliffs, and possibly visit the craft markets and Art Galleries or relax at the pool. 2 nights at the Marine Hotel including breakfast. Day 19: Saturday 8th JanuaryGolf at Hermanus Golf Club; this course offers the keen golfer 18 incredible holes of golf. Over the years the Hermanus course has become one of the most popular to play in the area and a - definite "must play" course. PM. Farewell dinner and prize giving. Day 20: Sunday 9th JanuaryDepart in the early afternoon and transfer to Cape Town Airport for your evening flight back to the UK.
