Golfing Holidays

South Africa - Fairest Cape

Vineyards of Franschhoek • Cape Town

Due to client feed back and the success of this year’s tour, we will continue to offer the fully escorted Round South African tour in a three module format. We hope that by splitting the tour into three we will appeal to a broader spectrum of golfer. By dividing the tour we can accommodates those of you who wish to participate on all three modules, covering most of South Africa, or a choice of taking shorter guided tour of say one module and possibly add on a few additional nights either end of your holiday, for a more relaxed programme. By splitting the tour we believe we are giving you our client’s greater flexibility and a number of permutations which should appeal to all our golfers.
Please telephone Glynis to discuss your ideas and she will happily put together a fully or partially escorted tour to suit your individual requirements.

In this module we have included Cape Town a sophisticated city with its wide variety of excellent restaurants, luxurious hotels, spectacular scenery and colourful Waterfront. We have added to this the quaint historical village of Franschhoek boasting once again an excellent choice of quality restaurants, interesting shops and boutique. The village is surrounded by mountains with views over the Franschhoek valley. From a golfing point of view, you will truly be spoilt for choice both in And around Cape Town and the winelands.

Saturday 20th February

We depart from Arabella and head through the fruit growing areas of Grabouw and Elgin, to L’ernitage Chateau in Franschhoek. Set on the slopes of the Franschhoek Pass this charming Chateau is set in the prestigious Franschhoek Estate with breathtaking views of the majestic mountain range. There are 36 private villas, conveniently situated, within walking distance of the village. 5 nights at L’Ermitage including breakfast.

Sunday 21st February

Golf at De Zalze; another Peter Matkovich designed course, set amongst the De Zalze Winelands with the most stunning setting and a course that places a premium on accuracy. De Zalze’s fairways are surrounded by vineyards, olive groves & lavender fields, which will all produce marketable crops for the Kleine Zalze Estate.

Monday 22nd February

Free Day.

Tuesday 23rd February

Today we take a tour or the surrounding wine growing area, visiting select wineries, followed by a sumptuous lunch at Petite Ferme just outside Franschhoek (own account). Lunches at Petite Ferme are legendary; a feast of culinary delights, the food reflects the creative energy and raw talent of a dedicated staff combined with an abundance of fresh local ingredients.

Wednesday 24th February

Golf at Boschenmeer Golf Club; this is a David Frost signature golf course, offering superb golfing. It is the only 27-hole golf course in the Western Province, and the first David Frost signature golf course in South Africa. Pro golfer David Frost grew up in the Paarl/Franschhoek region and is an integral part of the Paarl Golf Club, where he first played as a school boy.

Thursday 25th February

FToday we make our way to Cape Town. We will be spending seven nights at The Vineyard Hotel situated in the leafy suburb of Newlands. The hotel is set in 6 acres of beautiful gardens with spectacular mountain views, offering a peaceful relaxed atmosphere, yet only a 15 minutes drive from the city centre. The hotel has two restaurants, a state of the art spa and gym as well as two swimming pools (one heated). 7 nights at the Vineyard Hotel including breakfast.

Friday 26th February

Golf at Royal Cape; the oldest club in South Africa. It was given its Royal title in 1910 after a visit by the Duke of Connaught. The course is essentially a flat parkland course, with lovely views of the surrounding mountains. The narrow fairways demand extreme accuracy off the tee, wayward shots are penalised by trees and the greens are well bunkered.

Saturday 27th February

Free day.

Sunday 28th February

Golf at Westlake; this course is nestled in the crescent of the Steenberg/Silvermine Mountains and is characterised by the towering trees lining most of the fairways

Monday 1st March

Golf at Milnerton; a regular host to PGA events including the South African Open, the course boasts picture postcard views of Table Mountain across the bay from almost every hole. A seaside course surrounded by natural beauty and is a challenge to even the most experienced golfer - especially when the prevailing South Easter, affectionately known as the "Cape Doctor" - makes her house calls in the summer months!

Tuesday 2nd March

Full day tour of Cape Town city, including a trip up Table Mountain by cable car and an optional trip across the bay to Robben Island.

Wednesday 3rd March

Golf at Steenberg; rated as one of the top three courses to visit in South Africa, nestled in the crook of the Constantiaberg Mountains, the course was designed to make full use of the natural features and hazards such as vineyards, pine forest and gentle waterways. Stenberg’s environmental diversity gives the course its truly unique character.
