Lake Nasser Fishing Safari - Egypt
(with charter flights only)

Dates are available throughout 2008 (see below for pricing).

Most British anglers can boast their biggest fish from Lake Nasser. The attraction is fighting one of the largest freshwater fish on the planet. To say that Lake Nasser offers a totally wild, challenging form of safari-style angling is an understatement. Many anglers have caught Nile Perch in excess of 100lbs, sometimes on their first trip, and the lake has produced several I.G.F.A. World Records!

Getting to Aswan:
A Lake Nasser safari starts every Tuesday from Aswan. Flights to and from Aswan are not included in our safari costs but we arrange the entire package when booking a safari.
1. Egypt Air - Monday departure (ex-Heathrow) year round.

Lake Nassar Safari

This safari is designed for anglers who like to go on their own, or with a friend, and then join in the atmosphere of a sociable camp with others. The safari unit is made up of 2-3 fishing boats, supported by a supply boat (mother ship) that acts as a mobile camp and rest area. The supply boats are well equipped with built in kitchen, toilet, shower and large ice boxes to keep food and drink cold.
Each fishing boat has two bunks with full size single mattress. This area also provides spacious daytime seating. At night the cabin can be enclosed by canvas. Each boat cabin has a 12v lighting system. Many anglers also enjoy the unique experience of sleeping under the desert stars on the wind-protected upper deck.

Nubian Safari

A Nubian Safari can start and end on any day of the year, and may last for as long as is required. This style of safari is ideal for two anglers or a small group of friends who like to fish together. The minimum number of anglers needed to run a Nubian safari is two in one boat and we suggest no more than three fishing boats per safari.

A small supply boat with toilet and shower facilities carries all the provisions, cooking equipment and iceboxes, as well as a cook and his assistants who will take care of all domestic requirements.

The cost of a Nubian Safari does not include flights or the arrival and departure package but we arrange the entire package when booking a safari.

Charter a stealth boat:
You might like to consider chartering a stealth boat in addition to your regular fishing boat. Stealth boats can be quietly drifted or rowed over underwater promontories or past rocky drop-offs, allowing anglers to cast lures, use live bait or wobble dead bait avoiding the disturbance caused by noisy engines. You may only hire a stealth boat for the exact number of days of the safari you have booked. The cost is £25 per day.

John Wilson at Lake NassarDestination guide:
It is important that you are fully briefed so you know what to expect on a boat safari. We will send you our destination guide on request or when you make a booking. This gives detailed information about safaris, guides, fishing methods etc.

Tackle & lure hire (not included in safari cost):
Tackle may be hired. 'Tackle box' option: a trolling rod and reel, a heavy shore rod and reel, a light spinning rod and reel, 30- plus lures. Cost: £15 per day.

Day Fishing Trips:
Single day fishing trips are available any day of the year. You will be collected from your hotel or cruise ship at 8.00a.m. and transferred to the boat for a full day fishing. Return to Aswan at 4.30p.m. for transfer back to your hotel or cruise ship.

An experienced guide will captain the fishing boat and a quality packed lunch is also included. Each boat is provided with up to three sets of rods, reels and a lure box; NB lost lures must be paid for. On a day trip the fishing boats will comfortably carry up to four people with three fishing.

Prime seasons:
Broadly speaking the year is divided into winter and summer seasons: January to end of June, and Mid Ocotber to end of January.

From mid March until the end of June Nile perch can be found in shallower water. This is because their main prey, tilapia, are spawning. The fry stay in water between 5 and 15 feet deep. This period is particularly good for shore and fly fishing, and trolling shallow-running lures.

From mid October to late January the lake is at its highest level and the Nile perch are in deeper water. Observation indicates that they are feeding up prior to spawning in December/January. The summer season consistently produces larger fish from trolling underwater promontories and sunken islands. Shore fishing is less good in winter months and the greater depth of the fish makes fly fishing very difficult.

Sightseeing add-ons anywhere in Egypt can easily be arranged before or after your fishing safari.

Insurance is mandatory & not included.

When making any Lake Nasser reservations please note it takes 4 weeks to obtain a fishing permit.
