Also situated on Benguerra Island with a unique tree-top walkway to most of the accommodation, is which Marlin lodge which caters mainly for big game trolling enthusiasts. There are on-site scuba diving facilities too.
Boats (there are four), are the South African-made 26 foot Nova cats‚ (nine foot beam) sporting twin 200 Yamaha engines. These are very stable, with plenty of floor space and can accommodate four anglers.
The marlin here are all big blacks‚ in the 300-800lb. range, and there are plenty of sizeable sailfish. In addition to billfish, other species expected whilst trolling are wahoo, barracuda, dorado, queen fish, king mackerel, yellowfin tuna, bonito, and giant trevally. Hammerhead and tiger sharks also periodically show up. All tackle is provided.
The best marlin season is from October through to January. The best sailfish season is June to the end of September, and for all others May through to January. The lodge is closed throughout February due to strong winds.
Indigo Bay Island Resort Hotel
Situated 25 miles off the Mozambiqe coastline on Bazaruto Island, part of the Bazaruto Achipelago, Indigo Bay Island Resort Hotel is the most luxurious of all the lodges in the area, with accommodation perched high above coral white beaches in a most tranquil setting, surrounded by lush vegetation and exuberant bird life, overlooking breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. In this conservation paradise, proclaimed a National Park, the sailing, the snorkling and the scuba diving are all exceptional. There are whales, dolphins, five of the worlds seven species of marine turtles, plus the rare dugong‚ (sea cows related to the manatee family) to be enjoyed also.
The fishing here is blue water trolling from the very best in big game boats. Species include black marlin, sailfish, wahoo, king mackerel, dorado, yellowfin tuna, bonito and many others. Best fishing season is May through to January. All tackle is provided.
