This superb itinerary is especially designed as a year round option
and concentrates on the tropical region of Natal. Your holiday begins
with a few days at one of the finest golf resorts in South Africa, you
then travel to the majestic Drakensberg Mountains. We have added a hint
of history and culture before you return to enjoy a stay at a wonderful
beach hotel where the sound of the warm Indian Ocean can easily be heard
and is only a few steps away. Throughout your travels we have handpicked
some of the finest golf courses for you to play.
SUGGESTED ITINERARY
Day 1: Depart on South African Airways overnight flight to Johannesburg.
Day 2: Arrive Johannesburg and take a connecting flight of one hour
to Durban. Pick up a hire car and make your way to Pennington south of
Durban, under an hours drive. You will be spending four nights at Selborne
Golf and Spa Resort. Selborne's' discreet but attentive staff will create “Home
from Home” in Africa, pampering you with friendly personal service.
Enjoy a wide variety of excellent food in the fine dining restaurant
or for lighter snacks, meals are served on the terrace. In addition to
the wonderful golfing and excellent birding, there are floodlit tennis
courts and a super pool. If you prefer take the free shuttle to the private
beach club just a few sandy steps from the refreshing Indian Ocean. 4
nights at Selborne Golf and Spa Resort including breakfast.
Day 3, 4 & 5
We have included two rounds of golf at Selborne and Umdoni, both courses
are rated amongst the top 20 in South Africa. One free day at leisure.
Day 6: Today you will head towards the Drakensberg Mountains to spend
two nights on a DB&B basis at Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse, a place
of legendary culinary delight. With a passion for cooking, Richard Poynton
has created an experience never to be forgotten. Each room has a veranda
with wonderful views of the mountains. 2 nights at Cleopatras including
dinner & breakfast.
Day 7: Golf at nearby Boschhoek, a privately
owned course set in this marvellous corner of the Natal Midlands.
Day
8: After breakfast drive through magnificent scenery, dotted with Zulu
villages to Cathedral Peak, where you will be spending three nights,
including dinner and breakfast. The unsurpassable natural beauty that
surrounds the resort is awe inspiring while the wide ranges of facilities
available are at your disposal. 3 nights at Cathedral Peak Hotel including
dinner & breakfast.
Day 9 & 10: A day at leisure and a round
of golf at Champagne Castle Golf Course; set in a beautiful valley beneath
the majestic Champagne Castle and Cathkin Peak mountains. Designed by
Hugh Baiocchi, this course provides an exciting challenge.
Day 11: After
breakfast depart for Babanango Valley Lodge where you spend three nights
on a full board basis. Run by John and Meryn Turner, this charming lodge
with pool and beautiful views was converted from John’s parents’ farmhouse
and is situated close to the Anglo Zulu battlefields. 3 nights at Babanango
Valley Lodge including dinner & breakfast.
Day 12 & 13: A day
to relax and enjoy your surrounding and a full day guided tour of the
Anglo-Zulu war, Isandlwana; scene of the bloodiest defeat of the British
army during the Zulu war and also to Rorke’s Drift where your guide
will recount the story of the famous battles which took place there.
Day 14: This morning you will be making your way to the coast and heading
south to The Lodge at Prince's Grant on Kwa Zulu Natal's Dolphin Coast.
Situated forty-five minutes north of Durban on an unspoilt stretch of
coastline, the small hotel with 15 lovely rooms overlooks one of South
Africa's top golf courses or the Indian Ocean. A secluded beach and private
lagoon further compliment the golf resort along with squash, tennis and
swimming. 4 nights at Prince’s Grant Lodge including breakfast.
Day 15, 16 & 17: The following three days include a day at leisure,
golf at Princes Grant and Zimbali, the first Tom Weiskopf designed course
in Southern Africa; a coastal classic with superb fairways and lush Natal
vegetation.
Day 18: Most of the day is at leisure. Make your way to Durban
Airport, drop off your hire car and fly to Johannesburg, connecting with
your onward flight to Heathrow.
Day 19: Arrive London Heathrow early
morning.
